Anishinaabek Nation

Introduction for the Early Learning Coordinator

Aanii, Ramona Shawana ndishnikaaz, Wiikwemikoong ndoonjibaa.  Anishinaabek Nation ndoo –nji-nokii. I am currently working as the Early Learning Coordinator with Anishinabek Nation supporting communities with the IELCC (Indigenous Early Learning Childcare) Framework.

I have worked in the field of early years for 29 years.  Early in my career, I spent some time working within my community at the Hub Centre as a preschool educator.  I saw a need for speech language services for young children in our community so I sought additional qualifications to become a Communicative Disorders Assistant which allowed me to provide speech and language therapy to young children in my community under the direction of a Speech Language Pathologist.  In 2010, I moved to Sudbury where I worked as an ECE in a provincial school board. During this time I completed my Bachelor of Early Childhood Studies at Ryerson University.  I have also recently obtained a Professional Masters of Education with a concentration in Aboriginal Education at Queen’s University. I am passionate about early learning and continue to explore how Anishinaabe ways of knowing and being can enhance learning for our children in early years programs.  If you are affiliated with Anishinabek Nation and are interested in chatting with me about IELCC funds in your community please feel free to email me at Ramona.shawana@anishinabek.ca  Miigwech
