Science of Belonging Appreciating Staff Retention Featuring Dr. Rumeet Billan

Research has consistently shown that when employees feel that they belong, they will perform better and experience higher levels of commitment, engagement, and well-being. An absence of belonging increases risk of isolation, underperformance, and burnout. It also minimizes trust between co-workers. Trust helps to solve problems of risk and is necessary for collaboration, innovation, and creating a sense of belonging among those that we lead. Communities of belonging that have been formed during the pandemic have transcended borders and buildings. People leaders are being tasked to encourage vulnerability, engagement, and create experiences that help their people navigate change. They are also being tasked to relate, work, and interact effectively in culturally diverse situations. This session will examine the science of trust and belonging, misperceptions and myths associated with both, the connections between transparency and vulnerability, and organizational habits that foster a culture where psychological safety is not only encouraged but embraced. Strategies to lead and manage for trust and belonging will be presented.
